2012 M.A.C. Attack Competition Line Policies and Information
PARENTS and DANCERS please read thoroughly!
Attendance: Attending class on a regular basis is important in any learning experience. The consistency and repetition is necessary for proper training. Parents must contact the studio before class is their dancer is expected to be absent. Please do not call or text your teachers, leave a message with the front desk. M.A.C. Attack competitive line students may only have FIVE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES, per class throughout the entire dance season. An absence is only excused if there is a family or medical emergency. In any other situation the dancer must come in to class and watch. If the five absences are reached then the student has a period of three weeks to schedule and participate in a mandatory make-up private lesson. The fee for the 30 minute private make-up lesson is $25.00. If you do not make up at least one of the absences within the three weeks then the student will be put on a probation period for the remainder of the year. The MAC Staff will then decide the proper recourse for the student in question. We cannot stress how important it is for each of our students to have great attendance; missing a single day may lead to the student falling behind in one of these fast paced classes. ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL. The last class before each competition is mandatory! Your child must participate in Technique classes all year in order to be on the competitive line. This includes a Tap class, a Technique class, a ballet class, and a Hip Hop technique class if they are taking the “senior” competitive Hip Hop.
**Once you are enrolled in a competition dance, you cannot drop out the class after September 24th, by doing so you will forfeit the rest of your competition dances for the season**
Competition Attendance: All competitions are mandatory, NO EXCEPTIONS. Please Note- there will be no rearranging competition schedules for any reason. The dates for the competitions will be posted at the beginning of the dance season. Please be sure to mark your calendars and keep those weekends open. All awards ceremonies are MANDATORY for your child’s award bracket, unless approved by the MAC Staff.
Parent Pick-Up Policy: All parents must pick up their dancer within a reasonable time frame for all studio classes and events. After 30 minutes the police department will be contacted to escort your child home. If any urgent situation should arise that could result in a late pick up, please notify the studio as soon as possible. Certain circumstances are not under control and we at the M.A.C. understand this and will not contact the local law enforcement for such conditions.
Dress Code: Please make sure your dancer is wearing the proper dance attire for each of their classes. This will ensure your dancer will get the proper training and correction from the teachers. If a student continuously disregards the dress code, they will be unable to participate in class until they wear the appropriate attire.
Competition Class Attire:ALL BLACK or MAC GEAR MUST BE WORN FOR ALL COMPETITION CLASSES.
Tap Attire:TAP SHOES ARE MANDATORY.
Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary Attire: Tight fitting dance attire. Dance paws or slip on jazz shoes must be worn.
Ballet Attire:All dancers must wear any color leotard with full tights. Ballet shoes must be worn and hair must be pulled back and out of face.
*If a student does not uphold the dress code and does so for more than two weeks in a row, they will receive a warning and then the following week if they are still not wearing the appropriate attire, they will be asked to sit out in class and take notes.
All competition TIGHTS and MAKEUP must be purchased at the studio.
PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME IN EVERYTHING.
Payment: Tuition is due at the beginning of each month, no later than the 7th. Any payment received after the 7th will be charged a $10 late fee. PAYMENTS MAY BE RECEIVED EARLY. When a payment is 14 days overdue then the late fee increases to $15. However, if a payment is not received by the end of the month, then a fee totaling $25 will be applied to your account.
Payment late fee breakdown-
If paid after the 7th, $10.00 late fee.
If paid after the 21st, $15.00 late fee.
If fee is not paid by the end of the month then there is a $25.00 late fee.
Payments for private lessons are due by the 15th of the following month. If payment is not received by the end of the month, then a $15 late fee will be applied. If a payment on any account is NOT received in a period of four months, then the account must be handed over to a collection agency. Late fee policies also apply to all costume and competition fees. There will also be a “competition processing fee” for each competition the studio will attend. It often takes days to register each individual student and this fee covers the payment of staff registering the students. The fee will be no more than $10 per student, per competition.
M.A.C. Etiquette: All students and parents will be respectful at all times to the studio, instructors, other students and parents. Profanity, negative attitudes, and gossiping should not be brought in to the Movement Arts Center. We ask that you please clean up any messes that you or your children may have made, and respect all of the M.A.C.’s property. Children are NOT allowed to be left unattended. There is no running, tumbling, horseplay, or foul language allowed outside or in the lobby. While classes are in session, please do not open the dance room doors, or tap on the viewing window. Any student, under the age of seven, needs to be escorted by a parent or a guardian to or from the studio. This is to ensure the safety of all the dancers.
Studio Closings: In case of inclement weather we will follow the Mehlville School Districts decision on school closings. Please check the voicemail and our website if the weather gets better or worse after school hours to confirm the studio closing. We will also be listed on Fox 2 news for studio closings. There is no refund when the studio is forced to close.
Competitions and Conventions: The “M.A.C. Attack” Competitive line will be participating in MANDATORY competitions and a few conventions as well in the Saint Louis area. One in town convention is mandatory, but all are encouraged. They allow students to learn from numerous accomplished choreographers at one time.
Competition Etiquette: While attending competitions the Movement Arts Center expects all members of the competition line to be exemplary dancers and individuals. All dancers and parents are to be respectful while representing the Movement Arts Center. Also, the “M.A.C. Attack” line must wear studio warm ups for ALL awards ceremonies.
Competition Line Warm-Ups and Dance Bags: The M.A.C. requires all competition line students to purchase a “M.A.C. Attack Warm-Up” to wear at competitions if you do not already have one. These are to be worn at every award ceremony you attend. You will also be required to purchase a M.A.C. duffle bag to bring to all competitions. This will ensure that you have a proper vessel to carry all of your items to and from the competitions.
Competition Activities: All competition line dancers must attend every “M.A.C. Attack” studio activity.
Examples: Make-up sessions, Dress Rehearsal, Lock In, etc., etc.
Competition Production Number: If your competition packet included the "company production" then you are required to participate in the “MAC Production” number this year in order to take any of the other competition classes.
Big Sister/Little Sister Program: This year on our M.A.C. Attack Competition Line we will be pairing you up with a big dancer/little dancer. Your Buddy will be someone who you can talk to if you need help with anything, or they are just there for encouragement. We feel that this is crucial to becoming a better dancer because it teaches you how to interact with not just dancers your own age, but with dancers that are older and younger than yourself. At every studio event (competitions, recitals, etc.) you will exchange a small gift or card to show your support. It’s a fun way to get to know your fellow dancers!
